Chemical Peels

Chemical peels are nothing new. They have been used for many years to reduce the effects of aging, and facilitate brighter, more even-toned skin. Chemical peels involve an acid solution that’s administered to the face to remove the damaged skin layer. The treatment targets acne scars, blemishes, pigmentation, and more.

Our Approach

We consult with our patients to ensure that a chemical peel is the appropriate treatment for them, given their skin type and beauty goals. Gentle peels, for example, are perfect for those looking for skin rejuvenation with little recovery time, while more aggressive peels are recommended for those seeking more dramatic results.  Peels are performed as part of a treatment series, so expect to have more than one.

How it Works

The Basics

The procedure is pretty simple. After cleansing your skin, our trained aestheticians will apply a specialized acidic formula and let it work on your skin for a few minutes before washing it away. After the treatment, your skin will begin to look and feel sunburned as the damaged skin peels away. The peeling results in brighter, younger-looking skin with fewer fine lines and wrinkles, acne scars, and sun damage.

Three Depts of Peels

There are three basic categories for the levels of chemical peel strength: light, medium, and deep. Within these strength levels, Aesthetica customizes our treatment to best suit your skin.

Light Peels

Light peels are ideal for treating skin issues like lines and wrinkles, scarring, acne, and can improve skin texture. They produce the most minimal amount of peeling, using alpha-hydroxy acids like citric, lactic, glycolic, malic, or tartaric acids. Light peels are most effective in producing radiant skin when patients receive multiple peels as part of a series, and when they’re paired with microdermabrasion.

Medium Peels

As you might expect, medium peels penetrate deeper into the skin than light peels, resulting in more peeling and more noticeable results. These peels use trichloroacetic acid of varying concentrations to treat acne scars, advanced sun damage, deep wrinkles and pigment imperfections.

Deep Peels

More extensive than medium peels, deep peels are comparable to a facelift procedure. Yielding much more dramatic results, they also require more recovery time and are only done once rather than as part of a series.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are chemical peels safe?

Yes.  Chemical peels have proven to be safe and effective.

Are chemical peels effective?

Chemical peels have stood an impressive test of time. They’ve actually been used since the days of Cleopatra, who used to apply sour milk with lactic acid to her skin. They work in much the same way today. That’s all to say – yes! Chemical peels work, and have for thousands of years.

How long do the effects last?

Light chemical or glycolic peels last about one to two months. It’s recommended to repeat the treatment four to six times, once a month, to maintain the peel’s positive effects on the skin.  Medium chemical peels last two to six months, while deep chemical peels can last up to ten years.
